Agim Zajmi (Tirana, 28 November 1936 – 3 November 2013) was an Albanian painter and stage designer and one of the most prominent figures in Albanian art in the second half of the twentieth century. He is associated both with easel painting and with the theatre, where he designed more than three hundred stage sets. He received the title People's Artist of Albania.
Zajmi studied painting, scenography and costume design at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg, graduating in 1961. That same year he began working as a stage designer at the Opera and Ballet Theatre of Tirana and later mainly at the Tirana National Theatre. He also worked frequently with national theatres in Pristina, Skopje and Montenegro, and took part as a stage designer and painter in several international theatre festivals.
From 1978 until his death he taught at the Academy of Music and Arts of Albania in Tirana, where he founded the scenography programme. He also served as president of the Nationwide Figurative Artists' Association. His paintings, around eight hundred works, were shown in many countries, and forty of his paintings and stage designs are held by the Tirana National Art Gallery.
His legacy lies largely in the generations of painters and stage designers he trained over four decades of teaching.
