Aletta Ruijsch, also known as Aletta van Thol-Ruijsch, was a Dutch painter born in Den Helder on 6 August 1860 and died in The Hague on 20 November 1930. Her career offers a view of artistic life in the Netherlands at the turn of the twentieth century, when women were becoming more visible within artists' societies.
She trained at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam. Her teachers included Eugène Joors, and one of her own students was Nelly Goedewaagen. In 1899 she married fellow artist Hendrik Otto van Thol. She belonged to several associations, among them the Pulchri Studio in The Hague, the Utrecht society Kunstliefde, the Amsterdam association Vereeniging Sint Lucas and the Arti et Amicitiae society. She showed her work at the 1900 Paris Exposition.
