Dénes Andrássy
1835–1913 · Hungarian nobleman and patron of the arts
Count Dénes Andrássy de Csíkszentkirály and Krasznahorka (1835-1913) was a Hungarian nobleman best known for chairing the Hungarian Heraldic and Genealogical Society and for his patronage of the arts. The sources available do not present him as a painter, so his relevance here lies in his role as a wealthy and enlightened supporter of the arts in his time.
He was born into the Andrássy family, one of the most important noble houses in Hungary. His parents were Count György Andrássy and Countess Franziska von Königsegg-Aulendorf, from an old German noble family. He married Franciska Seraphica Hablawetz (1838-1902), a member of a Viennese bourgeois family, but the couple had no children. After her death he founded the Franciska Relic Museum in his birthplace. He was also a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
