Ed Warren
1926–2006 · American paranormal investigator and demonologist
Edward Warren Miney (United States, 1926-2006) was a paranormal investigator, author and lecturer who presented himself as a self-taught demonologist. Together with his wife, Lorraine Warren, he founded the New England Society for Psychic Research in 1952, regarded as the oldest ghost-hunting group in New England. The couple claimed to have investigated well over 10,000 cases during their careers and wrote many books about their work.
Their best-known case was the alleged haunting of the Amityville house in New York in 1975, which inspired a 1977 book and several films. They also became involved in the Perron case in Rhode Island, the Enfield poltergeist and the Annabelle doll, to which they attributed supernatural activity. Ed Warren also worked as an artist, though he is remembered mainly for his investigations.
Their claims have been widely disputed. Skeptics Steven Novella and Perry DeAngelis called them "blarney", and Joe Nickell and Benjamin Radford concluded that the Amityville case did not happen as told. The story continues to feed horror cinema, above all through The Conjuring franchise.
