Francisco Solano López (Buenos Aires, 1928 - Buenos Aires, 2011) was an Argentine comics artist regarded as one of the most important figures in his country's comics. His best-known work, El Eternauta, is a landmark of science fiction in Spanish.

His career began in 1953 at Editorial Columba, with the strip Perico y Guillermina. From 1955 he formed a partnership with the writer Héctor Germán Oesterheld, working on Bull Rocket, Joe Zonda and Ernie Pike. Seeking a more realistic tone for science fiction, he drew El Eternauta, published in Hora Cero from 1957 for two years.

Between 1963 and 1968 he worked in Europe for Fleetway. After returning to Argentina he revisited El Eternauta with Oesterheld and, in 2001, continued it with a story set in a future dominated by the invaders, where mass manipulation replaces military force. In 1977 he emigrated to Spain with his family.

His legacy lives on in generations of comics creators and in the many reprints of his work.
