Grigory Frid (born in Petrograd, 1915 – died 2012) was a Russian composer who also worked as a painter and showed his pictures in several exhibitions. His musical output, which is large and well documented, forms the best-known part of his artistic life.

He studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Heinrich Litinsky and Vissarion Shebalin and served as a soldier during the Second World War. His early works follow the conventions of Socialist Realism, but at the age of 55 he changed his style radically, turning to twelve-tone writing and other more contemporary techniques.

His most notable works are two chamber operas, both with his own libretti: The Diary of Anne Frank, a monodrama for soprano and chamber orchestra composed in 1968, and The Letters of Van Gogh, a mono-opera for baritone based on the letters of the painter to his brother Theo.
