Karina Content is the pen name of Karina Schaapman, born in Leiden in 1960, a Dutch writer and politician linked to the Labour Party of the Netherlands. Her name is mainly associated with writing and political activity, and the available information does not record any career as a painter.
Her literary works include Schoolstrijd (2000) and the autobiographical Zonder moeder ("Without Mother", 2004). In 2005, together with fellow Labour councillor Amma Asante, she wrote the report Het onzichtbare zichtbaar gemaakt ("Making the Invisible Visible"), which focused on prostitution in the Netherlands. It denounced the influence of organized crime and abuse, and questioned whether the aims of legalization were being met. She later published the pamphlet Hoerenlopen is niet normaal ("Visiting Whores Is Not Normal", 2007).
She also wrote the children's series Het Muizenhuis, featuring Sam & Julia, whose titles appeared between 2011 and 2013. One volume was given to the Dutch royal princesses when Willem-Alexander was crowned king, and about 30,000 children in Amsterdam received the same book on that occasion.
