Leta Peer (Switzerland, 17 April 1964 – 13 February 2012) was a Swiss painter and fine art photographer. Her career unfolded between Basel and an international circuit of residencies and studios across the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.
From 1984 to 1987 she studied painting at the School of Design in Basel under Franz Fedier. Later, from 1996 to 1997, she lectured as a visiting lecturer at the HISK, the Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium.
Her work earned several distinctions over her career. In 1986 she received the press award at the annual exhibition of the Bündner Kunstmuseum in Chur, and in 1992 and 1999 she held artist scholarships from Kunstkredit Basel-Stadt. In 1993 she was awarded a scholarship from the Cité internationale des arts in Paris, and in 2002 the Pollock-Krasner Scholarship in New York. Studio stays in Brooklyn and Montreal rounded out her international experience.
In 2010 she took part in the group exhibition Gratwanderung! (balancing act!) at the Neuer Kunstverein in Aachen. Her legacy rests mainly on a career that combined painting and photography and kept a steady presence in international scholarship and studio programmes.
