Michael Gruber
1965– · German artist, sculptor, installation artist and painter
Michael Gruber (born 1965 in Mallersdorf, Germany) is a German artist working across sculpture, installation and painting. After completing an apprenticeship as a wood and stone sculptor, he studied sculpture, which gave him hands-on training in materials and craft before his academic work.
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where, according to the available sources, his teachers included Hans Ladner, Antony Gormley, Asta Gröting and Timm Ulrichs. Since 1995 he has worked in Munich with his partner Corbinian Böhm under the name Empfangshalle, a joint practice.
In 1999 he received the Meisterschüler diploma, a qualification comparable to a Master of Fine Arts. The sources do not detail specific works or his later career, so his place in the history of painting remains less documented than his training and collaborative work.
