Peter Oliver was an English miniature painter, the eldest son of Isaac Oliver, a French-born portrait miniaturist working in England. From his father he inherited finished and unfinished drawings, with the expectation that he would carry on the art. His birth is usually dated to 1589 and his death to before 27 December 1647, when he was buried beside his father at St Annes, Blackfriars.

He was considered even more eminent than his father in miniature painting. His most distinctive body of work is a series of watercolour copies after celebrated pictures by old masters, made largely at the king's wish; seven of them remain at Windsor Castle. Many of his works were bought by Charles II from his widow. His most important piece is the group of the three grandsons of Anthony Browne, 1st Viscount Montague, with their servant, now owned by the marquess of Exeter. Alexander Cooper is listed among his pupils. Fine miniatures by him are held in collections including Welbeck Abbey, Belvoir Castle and Sherborne Castle.
