Botero Museum
Bogotá, Colombia · 5 works · 5 painters
The Botero Museum stands in La Candelaria, the historic and cultural heart of Bogotá, Colombia. It grew out of a gift: Fernando Botero donated to the city his international art collection, gathered from the late 1960s and previously scattered across several of his apartments. After first considering Medellín, the artist handed the ensemble to the Banco de la República, which has shown it in Bogotá since 2000. Its 87 pieces of universal art are grouped by period, from Impressionism to sculpture, and remain hung as Botero chose. Among the paintings on view are Max Beckmann's Maternidad, Eugène Boudin's El puerto de Trouville and Gustave Caillebotte's La llanura de Gennevilliers. The museum also holds about 123 works by Botero himself.
