Kunst Museum Winterthur | Reinhart am Stadtgarten
Winterthur, Switzerland · 13 works · 8 painters
The Oskar Reinhart Museum sits in Winterthur, Switzerland, and grew out of the art collections of a well-off local family. The collections outgrew the family home, and talks with the city about a dedicated museum began in 1930. World War II delayed the arrival of a suitable building in the Stadtgarten until 1951. The foundation also runs a second collection at Römerholz, with works ranging from the fifteenth century to Picasso. Artists represented include El Greco, Goya and Renoir. Online, the strongest presence belongs to Caspar David Friedrich, whose White Cliffs of Rügen features here, followed by Arnold Böcklin, with three paintings, along with Lucas Cranach the Elder and Frans Hals.
