Ten-Ō Sōtan (1413-1481) was a Japanese painter active in the fifteenth century. The sources available for this entry are limited, so only his dates of birth and death and his links to other artists can be stated with confidence.
He trained under Tenshō Shūbun, a teacher whose instruction probably shaped his approach to painting. Later, according to the available records, Kanō Masanobu became his pupil; Kanō Masanobu is associated with one of the major schools of Japanese painting. This connection places Sōtan within a chain of artistic training that links successive generations.
Because documentation is scarce, his works and style cannot be described in detail here; a fuller account would require additional sources.
