Burrell Collection

Glasgow City, United Kingdom · 11 works · 6 painters

The Burrell Collection is an art museum in Glasgow, Scotland, in the United Kingdom, set in Pollok Country Park about five kilometres from the city centre. It displays the collection assembled over some eighty years by shipowner William Burrell, who gave it to the city in 1944. Of its roughly 9,000 objects, most are medieval or from other cultures, but it also holds European painting, with Courbet, Boudin, Degas, Sisley, Cézanne and Manet among the best-represented artists here. Its pastels by Degas are regarded as the richest in the country, and works such as Le Château de Médan by Cézanne stand out. The present building opened in 1983, closed for renovation in 2016 and reopened in March 2022.
