Moderna Museet
Stockholm Municipality, Sweden · 13 works · 6 painters
Opened in 1958, the Moderna Museet is Sweden's leading museum of modern and contemporary art, located on Skeppsholmen island in central Stockholm. It grew out of the work of Otte Sköld, director of the National Museum, and spent three decades in a former naval pavilion before moving into a building designed by Spanish architect Rafael Moneo, opened in 1998. Admission to the permanent collection is free. The website features paintings by Edvard Munch, Sigrid Hjertén, Nils von Dardel, Henri Matisse, Giorgio de Chirico and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, among them The Dying Dandy by Nils von Dardel and Marzella by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Since 2009 it has also had a branch in Malmö.
