The Horne Museum is a privately founded art museum in Florence, Italy. It occupies the Palazzo Corsi on Via de' Benci and holds the collection of old masters and antiquities assembled by Herbert Percy Horne, an English architect and historian, who bequeathed it to the city of Florence at his death in 1916. Its strength lies in paintings by the so-called early masters of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, many acquired at modest prices before they became fashionable. Among its best-known works are Giotto's Saint Stephen, regarded as the museum's great treasure, Pietro Lorenzetti's Three Saints, Piero di Cosimo's Saint Jerome in Meditation and Dosso Dossi's Allegory of Music. The house, furnished with pieces from the fifteenth to seventeenth centuries, recreates the Renaissance atmosphere that drew its founder.
