Neue Galerie

New York City, United States · 9 works · 5 painters

The Neue Galerie is a privately owned art museum in New York City, on Fifth Avenue at 86th Street, in the so-called Museum Mile. Founded in 2001, it focuses on German and Austrian art of the early twentieth century. Its paintings center on that tradition, and Gustav Klimt dominates the collection shown online, with five of the nine works listed. Among them stands Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, which the museum acquired in summer 2006 after it had been seized by the Nazis in 1938. Alongside Klimt appear Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Felix Nussbaum, Egon Schiele and Max Beckmann.
