Palazzo Vecchio

Florence, Italy · 8 works · 5 painters

The Palazzo Vecchio stands on the Piazza della Signoria in Florence, Italy. It still houses the city council, while many of its main rooms are open to visitors as a museum with murals and paintings from the Florentine school, including works by Bronzino and Giorgio Vasari. Its first building was commissioned from Arnolfo di Cambio in 1299, and his tower, one of the city's emblems, still dominates the complex. In the Hall of the Five Hundred, Leonardo da Vinci was commissioned to paint The Battle of Anghiari, a work never completed; Vasari later covered the walls with his own decoration.
