This small double portrait, painted in oil on canvas in 1652 by David Teniers the Younger, shows two brothers from the Triest family. On the right is Antoine Triest, Bishop of Bruges from 1617 and of Ghent from 1622, shown praying with a rosary in his hand. He was also a noted collector and patron of the arts, and bought works by Teniers and other Flemish painters. On the left stands his brother, a Capuchin friar, holding up a shield bearing the five wounds of Christ. The shelf in the background holds small statuettes of Saint Jerome as a penitent and of the Flagellation of Christ, which point to the religious devotion of both men. The painting now hangs in the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, having passed through the collection of Boris Kurakin.
