Seville Cathedral

Seville, Spain · 8 works · 7 painters

Seville Cathedral, formally the Cathedral of Santa María de la Sede, is a Catholic church and the seat of the archdiocese of Seville. Built in Gothic style with later Renaissance additions, it stands on the site of the former Almohad great mosque, of which the Giralda minaret and the Patio de los Naranjos survive. UNESCO listed it as a World Heritage Site in 1987. Among the paintings the website holds from this building, Francisco de Zurbarán is the most represented, with his Immaculate Conception and Saint John the Baptist in the Desert. The list also includes works by Murillo, Goya, Pacheco, Francisco Herrera the Elder, Luis Tristán and Artemisia Gentileschi, whose Penitent Magdalene is among them.
