Galleria Borghese

Paris, Italy · 12 works · 9 painters

The Galleria Borghese is in Rome, Italy, and holds much of the collection assembled by the Borghese family from the seventeenth century, above all by Cardinal Scipione Borghese. The collection was housed in the Villa Borghese, a large garden estate with palaces on the Pincian Hill. Among its paintings, works by Caravaggio stand out, such as "John the Baptist", alongside Correggio's "Danaë", Cesare da Sesto's "Leda and the Swan", and Savoldo's "Tobias and the Angel". Raphael and Titian are also well represented. In 1807 a significant group of classical antiquities was sold to the French state and now resides in the Louvre.
