Royal Castle in Warsaw
Warsaw, Poland · 18 works · 11 painters
The Royal Castle in Warsaw stands at the southern entrance to the Old Town of Warsaw, Poland, where Krakowskie Przedmieście meets Podwale. Originally a medieval residence, it served as the seat of Polish kings until 1795, and the Constitution of 1791 was approved within its walls. Destroyed in 1944 and rebuilt between 1971 and 1981, its interiors recall the neoclassical refurbishment carried out under Stanisław II Poniatowski. The painting collection centers on royal and national portraits and on city views by Bernardo Bellotto, such as Miodowa Street in Warsaw, alongside works by Jan Matejko, including Rejtan. The Lanckoroński Gallery adds two portraits by Rembrandt.
