The Museo de Zaragoza, in Zaragoza, Spain, is a state-owned museum whose management has been transferred to the autonomous community of Aragon. It has occupied its current building on the Plaza de los Sitios since 1908. Founded in 1836 with property seized under the Mendizábal disentailment, it opened to the public in 1848. Its collections span from prehistory to the twentieth century, with notable strength in the Renaissance and in Goya. Among the paintings it holds are Portrait of Alfonso V of Aragon by Juan de Juanes and several works by Francisco de Goya, such as Charles IV of Spain and Venus and Adonis. Jerónimo Cósida is represented by The Birth of Saint John the Baptist.
