Palace Museum in Wilanów
Warsaw, Poland · 13 works · 11 painters
The Palace Museum in Wilanów stands in Warsaw, Poland, and is considered one of the oldest museums in the country. Housed in the residence that Polish kings and the noble Potocki and Lubomirski families gradually filled with valuable objects and artworks, it preserves the royal and artistic heritage of its owners. Its original core came from John III Sobieski, although only part of his collection has survived. Among the best-known paintings on the site are A Girl with Forget-me-nots by Lucas Cranach the Elder and the equestrian portrait of Stanisław Kostka Potocki by Jacques-Louis David, one of the most treasured works in the collection. Portraits by Louis de Silvestre and John III Sobieski with His Family by Henri Gascar also feature.
