The Tokyo National Museum, set in Ueno Park in Japan's capital, is the oldest and largest museum in the country. Founded in 1872 as the Imperial Museum, it was the first to open in Japan. Its collections bring together archaeological and artistic objects from several periods of Japan and other Asian countries, including a notable holding of Korean art. Among its paintings, Kuroda Seiki is the most represented artist on the list, alongside Hasegawa Tōhaku, Ōgata Kōrin, Kanō Eitoku and Sesshū Tōyō, with works such as Shōrin-zu byōbu and Wind God and Thunder God. The current main building, the Honkan, opened in 1938.
